I've had a similar thing happen to me a few times, at least in online discussions. When people have very strong opinions, especially on polarizing topics, they generally dislike it very much when someone takes a position in the middle and tries to be logical and reasonable about it. I don't do it on purpose. It's just how my brain works, I think. It tends to like the middle more than the sides, perhaps because it has a hard time deciding which one is better, so it picks both. I don't think it's a horrible way to think, but others seem to.
