The story of Icarus is pretty weird when you think about it. I can think of a number of reasons why a person trying to fly with manufactured wings would fail, but the glue melting isn't the first thing that comes to mind. Of course, his father was the guy who created the labyrinth that housed a giant man with the head of a bull, so I guess trying to apply logic to the story is fairly useless.
