It's been a convention in The Bird Feeder for a while that Lewis doesn't use contractions, and his speech is a bit more elevated. Clarence does the same thing, probably because he's seen Lewis do it. In early strips, however, he did use contractions and more ordinary sounding language. It's possible in the future he may go back to his earlier ways, but I doubt it.
