I'm confused by people who seem to think that existence is a competition. Asserting one's importance does not invalidate the importance of others. Wanting to be equal to others does not imply wanting to be above others. This logic is clear to me, but what Terry says here is, unfortunately, a common refrain among many people. I don't understand it.
