While bread isn't bad for birds to eat, it has no real nutritional value for them. They do like to eat it, and it will fill them up, but eating it will keep them from getting the nutrition they need from other foods. It's basically junk food for birds.

Also, I realize that birds do not have cheeks and therefore cannot stuff them with food. Bulging cheeks are a useful comic strip shorthand, though.
