You’ll notice that he only says “cooked,” and not necessarily “eaten.” A chickadee probably wouldn’t provide very much meat for a human, anyway. I find it interesting, though, because for most people, getting cooked and/or eaten isn’t something we consider when we think about death. For animals, though, it’s always an option (or danger, I guess).
