Kingbirds are, of course, flycatchers who happen to be bigger than other flycatchers and were therefore given the latin name "tyrannus," meaning tyrant or king. I'm sure it gives them a big head and makes them think they're better than other birds. It seems about as arbitrary a thing to feel superior about as anything humans do.
