Okay, so while there isn’t actually a bird called a popinjay (but don’t think there couldn’t be!), and while there is actually a species of butterfly called the popinjay (which I found out after I wrote the strip), and while the colloquial usage of the term means some kind of vain, shallow, foppish, buffoonish person, it just seemed to fit. So, there you have it.
